Philip Chamberlain, M.D., was born in Dallas, Texas.  He graduated from SMU and headed to University of Texas in Galveston for medical school and the first 2 years of pediatric residency.  He was then drafted into the Navy, where he spent 4 years, including the last year of residency.

In his active practice years, which began in 1961, he served as President of the East Bay Pediatric Society, President of the Medical Staff at Children's Hospital Oakland, as well as Chief of the Division of Pediatric medicine.  For many years, he was a medical consultant and writer for the "Parent's Press" newspaper.

Dr. Chamberlain is a proud Eagle Scout.  He has four grown children and three grandchildren.  He retired from practice in spring of 2005, but occasionally sees patients in the office when needed.

Lloyd Takao, M.D., was born and raised in Cincinnati, Ohio.  After studying architecture at the University of Cincinnati, he moved west and finished school at U.C. Berkeley with a B.A. in Zoology and Design.  He earned his medical degree from Medical College of Ohio in Toledo.  He completed an internal medicine internship and worked in the emergency room at Kaiser Oakland before completing his pediatrics residency at Children's Hospital Oakland.

Lloyd began in private practice in 1979 with Drs. Seymour Harris and Philip Chamberlain and helped open Summit Pediatric Medical Group in Orinda in 1985.  He is currently the President-Elect of the Medical Staff at Children's Hospital Oakland.

Lloyd has been on the Board of Directors of the American Lung Association for many years and received the association's Bernard Gregory Award in 2005 for advancing cultural diversity.  He volunteers as a camp physician every summer at the University of California Lair of the Golden Bear family camp.

Lloyd has three children and two grandchildren whom he enjoys playing with and is warmly known as "jiichan" or grandfather.  He is an avid skier, rock climber, and cyclist.  He loves to get involved in any sport that challenges his body to stay in one piece, as evidenced by his numerous surgeries to various body parts.

Jennifer Dovichi, M.D., was born in Sacramento, received her B.S. degree in Psychobiology at UCLA and went on to USC Medical School for her M.D.  Her pediatric internship and residency were completed at Lucile Packard Children's Hospital at Stanford and she went on to serve as Chief Resident there, finishing in 2001.  She then worked as a pediatric hospitalist for Stanford prior to joining Summit Pediatrics in 2002.

Jennifer is married and has three children.  She and her family live in Lafayette.  Her interests include swimming, running, and raising her busy family.

Pelen Wu, M.D., was born and raised in the East Bay.  She attended Bentley School for K-8 and then Piedmont High School (class of 1993.)  She then traveled to the Midwest to attend Northwestern University, where she earned a bachelor's degree in Economics.  She stayed at Northwestern University for medical school and received her M.D. in 2000.  Pelen went on to complete her pediatric internship and residency at Lucile Packard Children's Hospital at Stanford.  Afterwards she worked as a pediatric hospitalist in Fremont for two years before joining Summit Pediatrics in 2005.

Pelen is married and has two children.  She and her family live in Lafayette and enjoy visiting the Oakland Zoo, going on picnics, and vacationing in Hawaii.

 James Evans, M.D., was born in Berkeley and graduated from Piedmont High School.  He received a B.A. in Economics from Reed College, and then went to New Orleans and received his M.D. from Tulane School of Medicine.  He completed his pediatric internship and residency in Chicago at Loyola University.  He then worked in private practice in the Bay Area before joining Summit Pediatrics.

Jim is recently married.  He enjoys cooking, golfing with his wife, and running in the Oakland Hills.
